A very special #TuesdayTorahTutorsTidbit: Real Torah, from real TorahTutors sessions.
A group of TorahTutors students learning the book of Yehoshua discussed the choice of Yericho (Jericho) as the first site for conquest. They noted the obvious factor of location: in order to conquer the entire land of Canaan, they would have to start at the border and work their way in. But another possible element was brought home when their tutor raised the question: When you have several things to do for homework, do you do the easiest first or the hardest first? Everyone has their own approach, but one can imagine how successfully tackling a hard job first might inspire confidence regarding the remaining tasks. Considering the famous strength of Yericho’s fortifications, if the Jewish people could get conquer it successfully, they would likely feel the rest of the land was practically in their reach already.
As these particular students head off for a year of in-person study in Israel, we could not be prouder of all they have accomplished. We hope they share our confidence in their future successes, and that they will stay in touch!
