Devarim 12:5 instructs that any animal promised as a sacrifice must be brought to the Beit Hamikdash. The Sefer Hachinuch (mitzvah 438) explains that the animal must be brought on the first festival that occurs after the vow was made, because, he writes, “It is not appropriate for a person to be lazy about a mitzvah he vowed to do… Nevertheless, the Torah didn’t burden us to go up [to the Beit Hamikdash] immediately, lest people hold back from vows… but on the festival when they have to go up [anyway], it warns them to fulfill vows.” A TorahTutors student appreciated this balanced approach within the halacha, an approach that offers both a model and food for thought in broader areas as well.
