Could you guess just from the picture what this week’s Tuesday TorahTutors tidbit is about?
(We can’t be certain the donkey pictured here is the same one. But we can’t be certain it’s not, either. It certainly looks like it has something to say!)
This week’s Torah portion is Parshat Balak – the one where Balak, king of Moav, feeling threatened by the Jews, asks Bilam to curse them for him.
Bilam is thwarted repeatedly, including by an angel he can’t see and a donkey he can (who can also see the angel, and talk about it), but eventually makes his way to a great vantage point from which to curse the Jews…or rather, from which he serves as God’s agent in voicing some really lovely blessings of the Jewish people.
One TorahTutors tutor sent her student series of worksheets ahead of their session, with pictures of the various steps in the story as well as a number of key pesukim from the blessings and other parts of the account, in Hebrew and in English. This would allow the student to be hands-on while they discuss some #realTorah during their #realTorahTutorssession. She could color in the pictures, put them in order, match them to the English translations of the pesukim, and even match the Hebrew and English to work on her beginning skills in the language. Since this student is new to TorahTutors, having these options helps the tutor to assess the student’s background, while giving the student engaging activities while they learn.
With so much to learn and so many ways to do it, TorahTutors.org really is an amazing option for anyone of any age – anytime and anywhere. Contact us today to get started!
