After several weeks of Tuesday holidays, TuesdayTorahTutorsTidbits are back with more real Torah from real TorahTutors sessions.
A TorahTutors student learned that Chizkuni raises a question he thinks answers itself: “One should not question and say, ‘Since everything is disclosed before Him, how could He create [Man] to sin?’ Behold, fear of Heaven is not in the hands of Heaven, as it is said…” (comment on Bereishit 6:5).
Chizkuni cites several pesukim to support his assertion that humans have free will: God may have known how His creations would behave, but it was still their choice to do so.
The philosophical issues addressed in this short comment by Chizkuni are of course discussed in great detail by many scholars. A young TorahTutors student might suffice with this; as our students progress, they may wish to delve deeper. And with individualized learning, our tutors can tailor exploration of any topic to fit each student.
