Whether learning in person or online, it’s important to help students connect to what they learn in a variety of ways.
One TorahTutors tutor recently did just that. In the course of learning the story of Chana, including her prayers before and after the birth of Shmuel, the tutor shared a song with Chana’s beautiful words (I Samuel 2:1-2):
My heart exults in the LORD; I have triumphed through the LORD. I gloat over my enemies; I rejoice in Your deliverance.
There is no holy one like the LORD, Truly, there is none beside You; There is no rock like our God.
(translation from Sefaria)
In addition to offering the student a way to connect to Chana’s words through music, it turned out that the student made another connection: she had a past connection with the group and was excited to tell her tutor about it.
With such a rich shalsheles (chain) of connections, we’re sure she’ll remember what she learned for many years to come.
Click here to hear the song! (being mindful of customs regarding recorded music during the time period of Sefirat Ha’omer – something else our tutors would be happy to help learn about!)
