With our emphasis on individualized instruction, students come to TorahTutors from a wide range of backgrounds and with a wide variety of goals. For instance, some are looking to build specific text skills, while others do better with a broader, content-based approach.
Recently, a student with limited Jewish studies background asked her tutor to spend some time simply telling her stories. The request led to a rousing rendition, and discussion, of highlights from much of the book of Judges and the first book of Samuel. In that one-hour session, the student was introduced to individuals such as Otniel, Devorah, Yael, Shimshon, Shmuel, and Shaul. She was particularly impressed to meet biblical women who played active roles and to discover that there was a king before the famous David.
Now that she’s had a taste, we can’t wait to hear more about how this student increases her knowledge and digs into these accounts for greater depth, in accordance with her interest and growing level – just like all our students.
