Recently, a new adult student joined TorahTutors with the goal of exploring the weekly parsha in more depth. He prefaced his first learning session last week by sending his new tutor two questions he was struggling with after reading that week’s parsha (Ki Tavo) on his own. His questions, paraphrased, were:
- (Deut. 26:10) “A land flowing with milk and honey” – These are not products of the land, but animal products! Why mention milk and honey in praise of the land?
- (Deut. 29:25) “They went and served other gods…gods whom…He had not allotted to them.” The student was troubled by the implication that there are many gods, and that God assigns Himself to the Jews while other gods are assigned to other people.
The new pair had a wonderful first session discussing these questions, and are looking forward to weekly learning.
What questions would you like to discuss?
