Today we have a different type of #TuesdayTorahTutorsTidbit for you.
Last summer, we were approached by a school principal who was stuck on a scheduling issue: a group of students who needed extra support in certain classes were going to be missing Jewish studies classes to get that support – so they needed an alternative plan for Jewish studies.
We were thrilled to work with them, providing a rich learning experience geared specifically to this small group and making the most of the time they had available.
Here’s what the tutor wrote to the school administration at the end of the year:
As the school year comes to a close, I wanted to write up a list of the achievements of your students.
As we discussed, our goal was to give the girls an introduction to Chumash so that next year they would be able to come back into the regular classroom.
The students have gotten comfortable with the text, being able to read and understand the story and its deeper meaning.
We have worked on identifying shorashim within the pesukim we are reading.
As far as translation skills, I have encouraged the girls to translate the words that they know, specifically the meaning of the shorashim they have found.
We have also used the workbooks to work on their learning kinesthetically, by writing down translations and shorashim of the pesukim we are learning.
If you want individual reports on each of the girls, please let me know.
I believe that our learning together has been extremely successful, and would very much like to continue with another group next year. Please be in touch with Sarah or myself if there is any way that we can be helpful.
Have a wonderful summer break.
And there you have it – #realTorah learning and growth, throughout #realTorahTutorssessions.
Kind of makes you wonder what our fabulous tutors could do for, and with, you / your children / your children’s school / etc.
